St Mary’s Under 13 Angels played away at East Durham recently, and in the first five minutes of the game, East Durham took a 1-0 lead.
The goal seemed to shock the Angels into life and when the whistle blew for half time they were winning 4-1. An impressive second half saw another 6 goals from the Angels, and a dubious free kick for East Durham made the final score 10-2.
There were five great goals for Anna Colwell, a hat trick for Amber Hemming, Chelsea Nicholson hit the back of the net and there was a great goal for Briony Littlefair, who ran the length of the pitch to put hers in the away goal. Player-of- the-Match went to Laurie-Anne Wood.
St. Mary’s Angels Under 11’s remain top of the league after earning 2 more wins.
The first game was against Washington. Goals from Player-of-the-Match Emily Eggett (2), Sophie Wood (2) and Emily Scarr made it 5-0 to the Angels.
St. Mary’s Under 14’s managed to work hard for a well-deserved 3-0 victory against Brinkburn FC, their 5th consecutive league win. A hat-trick from leading scorer James Lupton was enough to give the Saints all three points. Liam Mather received Man-of-the-Match from his left wing position.
The Under 12’s game took place in appalling conditions and the teams were soaked before the game kicked off. Saints took the lead early in the first half with a great effort from Smith that flew past the ‘keeper. Just before half time, Stockton were back on level terms, but Saints took a deserved lead midway through the second half. The game then turned on a controversial decision. Saints ‘keeper Raisbeck claimed the ball from a cross only for the Stockton forward to kick it out of his hands and then into the net. Despite protests from Saints the goal was allowed to stand and Stockton were back on level terms again. Saints heads dropped, and within two minutes Stockton got a third and a mistake led to the fourth. Saints could not get back on level terms. Man-of-the-Match went to Metcalfe.
The Under 10’s put in a great team performance winning 1-0 against 21st Allstars. Josh Oyston scored the only goal of the game. Man-of-the-Match Bailey Prudhoe was unlucky, hitting the crossbar and having a shot saved.
