A Stoke-on-Trent couple who stayed in The Queen’s Head Hotel are to receive a complimentary return trip after their original visit was ruined by “boy racers”.
The town council agreed to pay for a night’s accommodation and free tickets to the Proms in the Park event after receiving an e-mail complaint from the dissatisfied visitors, who said their stay in the town was ruined by cars racing around the town centre.
Allan Bacon sent the e-mail after visiting the town with his partner on Saturday 10th April. He praised the hotel and said town centre during daylight hours. However, he described his experience of the night as being “living hell”.
The couple feared for the safety of their car, which was in North Bondgate car park, due to a number of cars that were circling the car park, revving their engines loudly and performing handbrake turns. Mr Bacon also complained about cars with loud exhausts driving around the town centre at high-speed.
Such was the problem that the couple left for Stoke at 10.30pm rather than stay the night, as planned.
Inspector Martin Peace, neighbourhood inspector for the town, said that police were working with the county council and other partners in order to improve the situation.
