Local lady Charlie Scott-King was so intrigued by The Clandestine Cake Club, a new craze which is sweeping the country, that she has decided to run her own branch of the club in Bishop Auckland.
The Club’s mission statement is “Bake, Eat and Talk about Cake”, and is all about bringing people together over tea and home-made cake.
Mrs Scott-King plans to run a Durham Dales Clandestine Cake Club event every 6-8 weeks, with the first meeting taking place on 11th March – the day Romeo and Juliet were married. She said, “I am calling all local people who love baking (and eating cake) to let their knowledge of this popular play inspire them in their choice of cake. The meet is free of charge and all I ask is for guests to purchase savoury food and drinks from our venue.”
The reason it is a ‘clandestine’ club is that the venue for the meeting remains a secret until you confirm your place, which adds to the intrigue and fun of the whole event.
Mrs Scott-King went on to say, “All are welcome; novices, home bakers and professional chefs. There is no judging or competition, just an enjoyment of cake, sharing recipes and making new friends.”
All bookings for the Durham Dales Clandestine Cake Club are taken via the web.
