Sixteen year-old Hayley Bradley has qualified for the National Schools Cross Country competition, which will be held in Somerset on the 18th March.
Hayley lives on Escomb Road and is a pupil at Durham High School for Girls. She initially qualified for the Inter Counties cross country event in the Durham schools qualifier, held at Meadowfield in January.
On the 4th of February she competed as part of the Durham Senior Girls team in the Inter Counties event that was held at Kirkby Stephen in Cumbria. Hayley finished in 11th place overall and was positioned 3rd out of the Durham team against strong competition from North Yorkshire, Cumbria, Northumberland and Cleveland.
This means that Hayley will be travelling to Somerset as part of the Durham team in the prestigious national event.
Surprisingly, Hayley does not actually run as part of a club and does not do any running training. She is a keen swimmer and believes this helps her with the stamina that is required for the cross country event, which she has competed in for the past six years.
Hayley is very excited to be representing the county and her school at such a major event in the cross country calendar.
