League title defended for BATTC

With a ten-point lead going into the last set of matches, confidence was high within Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Club’s A-team.

This confidence showed with a 9-0 victory over Ormesby ‘C’ with Lee Tinkler, Ed Sett and kept the pressure on second place side Darlington ‘A’ before playing them in the next round.

A tense, well fought match saw Bishop Auckland take a 3-1 lead which they never surrendered, going on to win 6-3. That victory meant the team only needed to win five matches to retain the title, which they did comfortably with a 9-0 victory over Ormseby ‘B’.

Not satisfied with having matched last year’s feat by winning the league, they also matched their unbeaten status with a 7-2 victory over 3rd place Ormesby ‘A’.

The ‘B’ team of Kieron Bowes, Alex Dickons John Waterworth and Jamie Collins exceded all expectation finishing by finishing in 5th place – the highest placing for a B team.

The last day saw them almost score the perfect weekend with victories over Darlington ‘B’, Northumbria and Ormseby ‘C’ but in the final game went down to second place Darlington ‘A’.

BATTC is open to players of all ages and abilities, running weekly coaching and social sessions.
